One of the representatives of the second generation of Chinese avant-garde art.
Guo Wei was born in 1960 in the province of Sichuan, from which he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. He still currently lives in the province of Sichuan.
Guo Wei's work is a visual experience of adolescence. She stages naked or scantily clad pubescent teenagers, very often her own daughter, in a setting where water is also an omnipresent element, such as the beach or the bathroom. The splashes of water or the veering of insects are translated by the large white scratches applied to the canvas by hypodermic surgical needles, creating an internal dynamism and tension.
