About the Artist:
Born in Grenoble in 1770, André Joseph Mécou was a prominent French engraver and lithographer trained under François Godefroy, Barthélémy Roger, and possibly Jacques-André Treillard. Celebrated for his precision and artistry, Mécou gained recognition for his engraved portraits of the Napoleonic family, Russian Imperial figures, and various notable personalities. He also created a renowned series of engravings based on the works of the French Neoclassical school, including depictions of Venuses.
