Condition: The piece shows some damage, notably to the scroll strut on the reverse.
Description: A bronze-gilt pax featuring the Madonna holding the Holy Child with St. Joseph positioned behind her left shoulder. The design includes an integral Renaissance-style foliate frame with God the Father and a seraph adorning the pediment. This piece is attributed to Galeazzo Mondella, known as Moderno (1467–1528), and is possibly 16th-century in origin.
Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Alfred Spero (1886–1973), London. Acquired by Bernard Kelly between 1967 and 1969.
