About the artist:
Egon Schiele was an Austrian Expressionist painter, draftsman, and printmaker known for the eroticism and emotive power of his figurative works. He began his artistic journey as a student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and was heavily influenced by the Jugendstil movement, a German Art Nouveau style. Schiele's encounter with Gustav Klimt, the leader of the Vienna Sezession group, left a lasting impact on his work.
Schiele's art is characterized by its intense focus on the human figure, and he treated erotic themes with candid and agitated expressions, causing a sensation in the art world. In 1909, he co-founded the Neukunstgruppe (New Art Group) in Vienna and exhibited extensively throughout Europe. His work, such as "The Self Seer" (1911), "The Cardinal and Nun" (1912), and "Embrace" (1917), continues to be celebrated for its emotional depth and distinctive artistic style. Schiele's landscapes also reflect his unique use of color and line to convey intense emotions. Tragically, his life was cut short by the Spanish influenza pandemic in 1918.
