About the Artist:
Leyton Forbes (1861-1939) was a distinguished painter, born as Patrick Lewis Forbes in Calcutta, India, the son of a tea planter. He pursued his artistic education at Aberdeen University between 1881 and 1883, where he developed a strong foundation in landscape painting. Forbes later settled in London and then Worthing, Sussex, where he continued his artistic career until his retirement, as noted on the electoral roll for 1939. His work primarily focused on landscapes, and he exhibited widely at prestigious institutions including the London Salon, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, often from his address in Hampstead, London. Forbes work is characterized by its detailed observation and a vibrant palette, making his depictions of the English countryside both lively and enduring.
