A rare, pillow-shaped ceramic tablet featuring cuneiform inscriptions on one face. Cuneiform, one of the earliest known writing systems, was used in Mesopotamia for recording economic, administrative, and literary texts. This artifact provides insight into the rich history of early written communication.
Originally part of a specialized collection of cuneiform texts, the tablet was owned by a London gentleman and stored in London until 1992, before passing by descent to family members. It was examined in the late 1980s and early 1990s by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926–2011), a distinguished historian, archaeologist, and expert in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology. This collection is noted for its diversity, including several rare and well-preserved examples.
