Description:
A refined Qing Dynasty (19th century) pale yellow soapstone carving depicting Guanyin seated gracefully. The figure holds a ruyi scepter in her right hand, resting on her right knee, while her left hand is concealed within the flowing sleeve of her elegantly draped robes and rests on a low table adorned with a bat-head motif and clawed legs. Guanyin’s hair is styled in a high chignon covered by a headscarf, and the soapstone is of an even, transparent, pale yellowish tone, enhancing its delicate appearance.
