Artist Biography:
Stuart Beck was a distinguished painter and writer born in Barnes, southwest London. His journey into art began with his studies at Rochester School of Art from 1919 to 1921. Beck's early career included 15 years as a graphic designer with a London colour printing firm and several years as the head of a studio in a publishing company. During World War II, he contributed as a technical illustrator for the Admiralty. After demobilisation in 1946, Beck worked as a freelance artist, creating technical cut-aways, posters, and book jackets.
In 1968, Beck dedicated himself to sea painting full-time, leading to his election to the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) in 1980. His works have been exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI), Royal Society of British Artists (RBA), Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA), and others. He had solo shows at the Solent Gallery in Lymington and the Skipwith Gallery in Winchester. His works are held in the RSMA Diploma Collection, the Royal National Lifeboat Museum in Poole, and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
