About the artist:
Joan Miró, born on April 20, 1893, in Barcelona, Spain, and passed away on December 25, 1983, in Palma de Mallorca, was a renowned Spanish (Catalan) artist. His artistic journey began after a mental breakdown prompted his artisan father to allow him to pursue art. From the outset, Miró sought to express natural concepts metaphorically.
Starting in 1919, he divided his time between Spain and Paris, where he was influenced by the Dadaist and Surrealist movements. His work was also shaped by the artistic influence of Paul Klee, evident in his "dream pictures" and "imaginary landscapes" from the late 1920s. These pieces featured linear configurations and patches of color that appeared almost randomly placed.
Miró's mature style evolved from the tension between his fanciful, poetic impulse and his recognition of the harshness of modern life. He explored various mediums, including lithography, and created numerous murals, tapestries, and sculptures for public spaces. Joan Miró's contribution to 20th-century art remains significant, and his work continues to be celebrated for its innovative and unique visual language, characterized by abstraction, symbolism, and a whimsical, playful spirit.
