About the Artist:
Barbara Jones embarked on her artistic journey at Croydon Art School (1931-1933) and later won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art (1933-1936), where she met and married painter Cliff Barry in 1941. During World War II, Jones made significant contributions to the Recording Britain series with the Pilgrim Trust. She is also renowned for her seminal books on design history, including The Unsophisticated Arts (1951) and Design for Death (1967).
Jones played a pivotal role in curating the Black Eyes and Lemonade exhibition for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and was an active member of the Society of Industrial Artists, becoming vice president in 1969. She was also a fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute and a member of the Society of Authors. Her legacy was celebrated in a retrospective exhibition of her studio's contents at Katharine House Gallery, Marlborough, in 1999.
