Description:
A remarkable Pre-Columbian standing male figure from Costa Rica's Atlantic Basin, dating to approximately 800–1000 AD. Expertly carved using volcanic stone, the figure stands naked with hands on hips and head tilted upward, exuding an expressive and commanding presence. While his anatomy is depicted in full, the surface is adorned with detailed elements resembling bruises, tattoos, or bead-like embellishments. The face is intricately rendered, featuring coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a triangular nose, slightly parted lips, and rounded ears, which would have been ideal for decorative embellishments such as feathers, shells, or beads.
This piece exemplifies the skill and artistry of Pre-Columbian craftsmanship, showcasing both cultural symbolism and aesthetic excellence.
