About the Artist:
Yvaral, born Jean-Pierre Vasarely (1934–2002), was a pioneering French artist known for his contributions to Kinetic and Op-Art. Influenced by his father, Victor Vasarely, he expanded on geometric abstraction, developing a method he termed “numerical art,” in which he used digital processes to manipulate images before meticulously painting them by hand. In 1960, Yvaral co-founded Le Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel alongside Julio Le Parc, François Morellet, and Francisco Sobrino, seeking to push the boundaries of visual perception. His works, often based on algorithmic transformations, create mesmerizing optical illusions, reflecting his deep engagement with science, technology, and artistic experimentation.
