About the artist:
André Brasilier is a distinguished French painter, born in 1929 in Saumur, France. He pursued his artistic education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His outstanding talent was recognized when he received the Florence Blumenthal Award in 1952, followed by the prestigious Prix de Rome for painting in 1953. He spent several years at the Villa Medici in Rome, from 1954 to 1957. Currently residing and working in Paris, Brasilier's artistic style beautifully melds abstraction and expressionism.
In his works, Brasilier delves into the profound connection between humans and nature. His paintings often feature horses, which he describes as "a superb creation...charged with symbolism, strength, dynamism, and beauty." These elegant equine forms are seen cantering through serene seascapes, wintry woodlands, and vibrant sunsets. Additionally, the artist's wife and muse, Chantal, frequently appears as a delicate and central figure in his compositions, often engaged in the act of arranging flowers.
Brasilier's contributions to the art world have been celebrated through various retrospectives and exhibitions. These include a significant retrospective featuring one hundred artworks spanning from 1950 to 1980, held at the Château de Chenonceau in 1980. Additionally, his works have graced the walls of esteemed institutions such as Russia's State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg in 2005 and Germany's Museum Haus Ludwig für Kunstausstellungen Saarlouis in 2007. His art continues to resonate with audiences, offering a window into the harmonious relationship between humans and the natural world.
