Anthony Thieme was a celebrated plein-air American Impressionist, known for his masterful use of light and color. Born in Rotterdam, Holland, in 1888, he trained under George Hacker in Düsseldorf before furthering his studies in Turin, Italy, with Giuseppe Mancini and Carlo Bini. Settling in the United States, Thieme became a leading figure in American landscape painting, founding the Thieme School of Art (1929-1943) in Rockport, Massachusetts. His work, deeply influenced by his extensive travels across Europe, the Caribbean, and the southern U.S., captures the essence of diverse landscapes with exceptional vibrancy and atmosphere.
