About the Artist:
Maria Giovanna Clementi (1690–1761), also known as La Clementina, was an accomplished Italian portraitist, recognized for her refined and detailed representations of nobility. Born in Turin, she trained under court painter Giovanni Battista Curlando, who encouraged her to specialize in portraiture. Her work is distinguished by a masterful use of light, rich color palettes, and a meticulous rendering of textures, particularly in luxurious fabrics and jewelry. Clementi gained prominence as a favored artist of the Savoy court, leaving behind an enduring legacy of aristocratic portraiture.
