About the Artist
Damien Hirst (b.1965) is one of the most influential British artists of his generation, renowned for his provocative and concept-driven works. Emerging as a leading figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs) in the late 1980s, Hirst gained international recognition for his installations, sculptures, and paintings that explore themes of life, death, and beauty. His early work, including The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (1991), featuring a shark preserved in formaldehyde, challenged conventional boundaries between art and science.
