This exquisite Buddha statue hails from the Gandharan region, dating between 100-300 AD, during the Kushan Period (c. 75-451 AD). Carved from grey schist, the statue depicts a standing Buddha, wearing a flowing robe and a topknot (ushnisha). The detailed features include a prominent bridge of the nose, arched forehead, heavy eyelids, half-closed eyes, a bulbous nose, full lips, a rounded chin, and large drooping ears. The Buddha stands on a base adorned with rosettes, with a round halo behind him. Gandhara, located in the northwestern part of the ancient Indian subcontinent (now Pakistan and Afghanistan), was renowned for its unique fusion of Greek, Roman, and Indian artistic influences, which is reflected in this piece. The statue is in good condition, showcasing the grace and craftsmanship of Gandharan art.
