Shaoli Chen, 'Nude Girl16'
The painting 'Nude Girl16' by Shaoli Chen presents a female nude figure seated on a chair. A white drapery flows over her thighs, creating a connection with the blue carpet on the floor, which acts as a grounding element for the composition due to its strong chromatic presence. The figure holds a fan and gazes toward the viewer. On the floor, a minimalist still life arrangement consisting of two green apples and a black toy animal with colorful floral patterns adds depth and an intimate feel to the scene, suggesting that these items belong to the figure. The background, rendered in light pastel hues, brings a sense of unity and frames the composition harmoniously.

The contemporary art scene in China often emphasizes conceptual art and originality, which has led some artists to distance themselves from real life by working behind closed doors in studios. However, some, like Chen Shaoli, reflect on this trend and return to nature and life through sketching and plein air painting. This practice injects vitality and authenticity into their work, countering the perceived dullness of studio-produced art and bringing fresh perspectives to contemporary painting.
