This exquisite set of Tang Dynasty pottery figures exemplifies the artistry and ceremonial significance of the period. The larger figure stands with his feet concealed beneath his flowing robe, hands positioned over his chest, and a tall brimmed hat extending above his forehead. He is mounted on a quadruped base, with his right arm held close and a central hole intended for holding tools, his eyes concealed beneath heavy lids, and his chin adorned with a pitchfork-style beard. The smaller attendant, covered in a lustrous verdant green glaze, features a simpler, yet equally refined, design with visible boots and a cylindrical black cap. Both figures are finely molded and glazed, reflecting the craftsmanship of Tang Dynasty funerary art.
