Description:
Xiaoqi Li’s Wing presents a haunting and ethereal vision, featuring a vague silhouette of a figure emerging from a desolate landscape. From each side of the figure, textured wings take form, rendered in thick impasto, lending the piece a tactile, almost sculptural quality. The composition is dominated by a stark contrast between the heavy, dark red background and the muted grey foreground, evoking a sense of isolation and passage. The artist deliberately leaves the edges of the canvas untouched, allowing the raw surface to frame the central subject. This choice not only heightens the textural contrast but also reinforces the impression of a transient space—a threshold, a portal, or a liminal realm where transformation is imminent. Through his masterful use of abstraction and symbolism, Li crafts a work that speaks to themes of ascension, departure, and the metaphysical unknown.
