About the Artist:
Harry Buyck (1928–2017) was a Belgian painter and draftsman born in Antwerp. Largely self-taught, he refined his artistic skills at the Academy of Ghent under W. Sybrands. He found inspiration in the human experience, capturing scenes from daily life with expressive brushstrokes and rich color palettes. His work often depicted beach scenes, landscapes, mother-and-child compositions, and figures in cafés.
Buyck’s talent was recognized with numerous awards, including the Jozef Muls Prize, the Guillaume Campo Prize, and first prizes in Noorderkempen and La Palette Martegale in France. As a key figure in the Belgian art scene, he played a significant role in fostering artistic events and supporting emerging artists. His works have been exhibited in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark and are documented in Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (PIRON).
