Exhibition Works:
One of Chao Nan's standout works is "Thoughts in the Box," an eye-catching installation prominently displayed on the second floor of the South China Art Museum. This installation is characterized by blue-purple light strips and transparent boxes, creating an immersive and visually striking experience. Chao Nan's concept for this work delves into the interplay between time and space, with 24 transparent boxes symbolizing either 24 hours in a day or 24 solar terms in a year. Each box contains discarded materials and works from his creative process, symbolizing the concept of "imperfect art." The 24 light strips add an abstract and enigmatic dimension to the artwork, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate connections between society, time, and space.
Another noteworthy piece by Chao Nan is "Cloud Line No. 1," characterized by its luminous and meticulously structured composition. The artist employed acrylic on double-layer rice paper for this work. The moment Chao Nan set his brush to the paper and unveiled the top layer, he encountered a sense of delight and unpredictability. His art beautifully combines elements of imagination and unexpectedness, encouraging viewers to explore the limitless boundaries of creativity.
Italian Art Festival:
Chao Nan, along with fourteen other young and middle-aged artists from Wuhan, Shanghai, and other regions, had the privilege of showcasing their works at the PALAZZO MAURI Art Museum in Spoleto, Italy. This exhibition was an integral part of the 2018 Spoleto World Art Festival and marked the commencement of a Sino-Italian cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation project, jointly initiated by the Changjiang Daily Newspaper Group and the Italian International Art and Education Union.
The exhibited artworks, including those by Chao Nan and Cao Heng, spanned a diverse array of contemporary mediums, encompassing easel paintings, photography, installations, and more. This exhibition played a crucial role in fostering cultural and artistic exchange between China and Italy, facilitating collaboration, and bridging the diverse landscapes of contemporary art.
