About the Artist:
Chao Nan, born in Hubei in 1990, is a contemporary Chinese artist and descendant of the Guo family. Currently residing in Shanghai, Chao Nan s artistic journey began with poetry in 2003, followed by systematic art studies in 2008. He engaged in film work in 2013 and has focused on contemporary art creation since 2015, primarily in paintings and installations. His works have been exhibited in major urban art institutions and are collected internationally.
Exhibition Highlights:
"Thoughts in the Box": This installation at the South China Art Museum features 24 transparent boxes with blue-purple light strips, representing 24 hours a day or 24 solar terms a year. Each box contains discarded materials and works from the creative process, emphasizing "imperfect art" and the abstract, unknown aspects of thought creation.
"Cloud Line No. 1": An acrylic on double-layer rice paper work, noted for its bright, smooth appearance and layered composition. The artwork reveals an imaginative and unexpected quality when the top layer of rice paper is unveiled.
Italian Art Festival:
Chao Nan s works have been showcased internationally, including at the PALAZZO MAURI Art Museum in Spoleto, Italy, as part of the 2018 Spoleto World Art Festival. This event marked the launch of the Sino-Italian cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation project. Alongside other artists, Chao Nan exhibited contemporary art pieces such as easel paintings, photography, and installations, promoting cross-cultural artistic dialogue.
