'Cry of Yaroslavna' - Serdyuk Boris Petrovich - Pastel on Paper Drawing
The artwork titled "Cry of Yaroslavna" is a pastel drawing that features a statue representing Yaroslavna. This character is significant in Ukrainian folklore and is based on the historical figure Anna Yaroslavna (c. 1030 – 1075), also known as Anne of Kiev. The drawing creatively utilizes the deep blue hue of the paper as its base tone and builds upon it.
The use of the paper's blue tone results in an unexpectedly fresh appearance. While the support paper contributes to maintaining chromatic harmony, it also serves as a tonal contrast, creating a backdrop against which the subject is depicted in light hues to make it stand out.
