Nán Cháo, 'On the bridge'
Nán cháo's "On the Bridge" is an abstract composition that invites viewers to explore the artist's interpretation of landscape elements, as suggested by the title. This vibrant artwork places a complementary contrast at its center stage, with dominant blue hues that create a visually striking effect. The artist employs bright, free-flowing colors, complemented by elements of dark, neutral grey and fragments of untouched support paper. These additions serve to amplify the composition's complexity while adding textural and chromatic depth.

About the artist:
Nán cháo, a contemporary artist, was born in Hubei in 1990 and currently resides in Shanghai. His artistic journey is a multifaceted one, starting with poetry in 2003, followed by a systematic study of art in 2008. He delved into film work in 2013 and transitioned to focus on contemporary art creation in 2015, with a primary emphasis on painting and installations. Nán cháo's works have found homes in major urban art institutions and have been collected by international collectors.
Nán cháo's artistic repertoire extends to installations as well. Notably, his installation "Thoughts in the Box" at the South China Art Museum is a striking example of his work. It features 24 transparent boxes, each representing either 24 hours in a day or 24 solar terms in a year. These boxes contain discarded materials and works created during his artistic process, symbolizing "imperfect art." Accompanying these boxes are 24 blue-purple light strips, which enhance the abstract and unknown aspects of his creative thoughts, merging concepts of society, time, and space.
Nán cháo's art often explores bright and smooth compositions with a strong sense of hierarchy. One of his works, "Cloud Line No. 1," is characterized by its use of acrylic on double-layer rice paper. This piece captures the excitement and unpredictability that come with artistic creation, as the artist reveals the top layer of the rice paper after putting down the pen.
His contributions extend beyond individual exhibitions. Nán cháo, along with other artists, has exhibited contemporary art works in international settings, including the PALAZZO MAURI Art Museum in Spoleto, Italy, as part of the Sino-Italian cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation project. This collaboration, initiated by the Changjiang Daily Newspaper Group and the Italian International Art and Education Union, reflects his commitment to international artistic endeavors.
