This square-format composition presents an abstracted interpretation of floral and avian motifs, articulated through a dynamic interplay of colour, gesture, and fluid brushwork. The surface is activated by layered passages of lime green, cobalt blue, coral, and ochre, which coalesce into a continuous field of organic movement.
The artist departs from descriptive naturalism in favour of a more expressive visual language, in which traditional motifs are reconfigured through abstraction. Ink and watercolour are deployed with varying degrees of saturation, producing a rhythmic oscillation between density and transparency across the pictorial surface.
Within An Pingping’s broader practice, the work reflects a sustained interest in expanding the expressive capacity of traditional media. By dissolving the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, the artist reinterprets established Chinese pictorial themes through a contemporary gestural vocabulary.
