About the Artist:
Domenico Zampieri (1581–1641), known as Il Domenichino, was an Italian Baroque painter renowned for his classical style and mastery of composition. He trained under Lodovico Carracci and was heavily influenced by the Bolognese school. Domenichino's work, which includes frescoes and altarpieces, is known for its serene and balanced compositions, and it had a profound impact on the development of Baroque art. Although his work fell from favor in the mid-19th century, his influence was rediscovered in the 20th century, particularly for his contributions to landscape painting. His classicism inspired later artists, including Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain.
