Description:
This is a print reproduction of Thomas Lawrence's renowned painting Pinkie, a portrait originally commissioned by Judith Barrett to depict her granddaughter, Sarah Barrett Moulton, affectionately known as "Pinkie." The artwork captures Pinkie in an elegant, windswept pose, with her luminous white dress and brilliant pink hat ribbons fluttering in the breeze. The low horizon line enhances the monumentality of the young subject, emphasizing her grace and poise as she performs a dance-like stance. The original painting achieved iconic status for its idealized portrayal of childhood, made poignant by the fact that Pinkie passed away shortly after its completion.
About the Artist:
Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769–1830) was a preeminent British portrait painter of the early 19th century, celebrated for his ability to depict the personalities of the era's most influential figures. A child prodigy, Lawrence began creating accomplished crayon portraits at the age of 10. Influenced by Sir Joshua Reynolds, he developed a refined and consistent style that remained central to his career.
Lawrence was appointed Painter-in-Ordinary to King George III in 1792 and became a member of the Royal Academy in 1794. Knighted in 1815, he later served as President of the Royal Academy. Notably, Lawrence created portraits of European sovereigns for the Prince Regent's Waterloo Gallery at Windsor. Beyond his artistic accomplishments, Lawrence was an avid collector, amassing one of the finest collections of Old Master drawings ever known.
