About the Artist:
François Gall (1912-1987) was a Hungarian-born French painter renowned for his Impressionistic style. His work, heavily influenced by Edgar Degas, often focuses on women engaged in traditionally feminine activities such as ballet, hairdressing, and sewing. Galls loose, expressive brushwork and use of bright pastel colors bring a vibrant life to his subjects. In addition to his figurative paintings, he also captured the French landscape, particularly the beach scenes.
Gall received his formal training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Workshop Coromaldi in Rome and settled in Paris in 1936. There, he became closely associated with prominent artists like Pablo Picasso and gained French citizenship in 1942. His work earned significant acclaim, including the Francis Smith Prize and an award at the Paris Salon in 1947. François Gall passed away in Paris in 1987, leaving behind a legacy of Impressionistic and figurative artistry.
