About the Artist:
Merv Slotnick is an accomplished American artist known for his abstract expressionist work and printmaking. Born in Lansing, Michigan, he embarked on a remarkable artistic journey that included academic pursuits and a diverse career. Slotnick earned degrees from Adrian College and Central Michigan University, further enriching his artistic knowledge with additional studies at Michigan State University.
In 1965, under the guidance of Theo Wujcik at the Center For Creative Arts in Detroit, Michigan, Slotnick ventured into the world of etching, marking a significant turning point in his artistic exploration. While concurrently pursuing his passion for abstract painting, he also dedicated himself to teaching and coaching high school basketball and football during the tumultuous 1960s.
From 1974 to 1978, Slotnick served as the Director of Art for the Elmira City School District in New York, where he made substantial contributions to the field of art education. His dedication was further recognized when he was elected President of the New York Council of Art Education Administrators in 1978. Following a successful career in education and administration, Slotnick decided to retire and relocate to Maine, where he continues to reside and create art.
His artistic impact extends far beyond the United States, as his work can be found in numerous collections worldwide, including those in Canada, England, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, France, and Italy, among others.
