About the Artist: Franz Xaver Simm (1853-1924) was an Austrian painter and illustrator, renowned for his evocative maritime scenes. He studied at the Vienna Academy under notable artists, including Anselm Feuerbach and Eduard von Engerth. Simm spent significant time in Italy after receiving a travel grant in 1876, where his work matured under the influence of the Italian landscape. After marrying fellow artist Marie Mayer, he contributed murals to the Caucasian Museum in Tbilisi and later settled in Munich, where he continued to develop his distinctive style.
