Artwork Details
Artwork Description
Paul Dufrane's 'Thais XVIII' presents a truly unique portrayal of the iconic figure Thais. In this painting, the nude female figure takes on an unconventional form, appearing to decompose and merge into an abstracted background. The painting's surface is rich with deep textures, creating an organic and tactile quality.
The artist employs a striking chromatic approach, using a complementary contrast to full effect. Red hues dominate the edges of the composition, gradually transitioning into greens towards the center. This clever use of color adds depth and complexity to the piece.
What's particularly noteworthy is the unexpected and narrow composition, with the height significantly surpassing the width. This choice of dimensions creates a unique framing that imparts a sense of monumentality to the artwork.
