Harry Buyck was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1928 and passed away in Merksem in 2017. A largely self-taught painter and draftsman, he also received lessons at the Academy in Ghent under W. Sybrands. His artistic vision was deeply influenced by his fellow human beings, and he adeptly captured everyday life scenes, landscapes, beach views, nudes, and mother-and-child compositions. His work features an expressionist flair, resonating with the delightful intimacy of folk life. From the press: "H.B. mainly looks for the atmosphere of his subjects, albeit that he stays far from the usual themes, but he prefers compositions with figures from everyday life" and "The paintings of H.B. continue the atmosphere of the delightful intimacy of the life of the folk." Price Jozef Muls, prize Guillaume Campo, first prize Noorderkempen and first prize of La Palette Martegale in France. Led the artist café Den Draak in Ghent (1956-1959), was at the basis of the organization of a large number of artistic events in Flanders and supported a whole series of debuting or already established artists.
