About the artist:
John Hall Thorpe was born in Sandridge, Victoria, Australia, and later moved to Sydney, where he was educated and began his artistic training. He worked as a woodblock engraver and staff artist before moving to England in 1900. In London, Thorpe developed a distinctive style of colored woodcut prints, gaining popularity with his bright, bold designs. His work was widely exhibited, including at the Royal Academy's Colonial Exhibition, and was well-received by critics. Thorpe's prints became fashionable in home decoration, influencing trends in wallpaper design.
