About the Artist:
Joseph Meeker (1827-1887) was an American landscape painter best known for his depictions of the Louisiana bayous and tranquil natural scenes. Born in New Jersey, he studied at the National Academy of Design before establishing his career in Buffalo, New York, and later in Kentucky. Meeker’s work, influenced by the Hudson River School, was widely exhibited and remains in notable museum collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
