About the artist:
Stefan Plenkers, born on April 28, 1945, in Ebern, Germany, is a renowned German painter and graphic artist. His artistic journey began in his hometown of Görlitz, where he received early creative guidance from his drawing teacher, Werner Panitz. Plenkers later pursued formal education in the arts, undertaking an apprenticeship as a typesetter and eventually enrolling at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
Throughout his career, Plenkers embraced various artistic techniques, including graphic techniques and oil painting. His subjects evolved over time, encompassing a wide range of themes such as interiors, tables, mirrors, tents, sails, circus performers, and scenes from pubs. His later works became more colorful, lively, and inspired by his extensive travels to places like Armenia, Georgia, Iraq, Lapland, China, and coastal regions.
Plenkers' artistic style aimed to avoid narrative elements, focusing instead on the essence of simple, enduring aspects of the human environment. His works often employed basic graphic structures, signs, and ciphers to convey depth and perspective through color. An unfortunate car accident in 1989 temporarily halted his artistic pursuits but ultimately led to further stylistic differentiation and increased productivity.
Throughout his career, Stefan Plenkers participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, leaving an indelible mark on the world of art. His dedication to capturing the essence of his subjects and environments is evident in his vibrant and expressive works.
