Wolff Buchholz was born in Hamburg in 1935, son of the painter Ruth Maetzel and the then Hamburg attorney general Ernst Buchholz.
âFrom 1955 to 1957 he studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, notably with Kurt Kranz, Johannes Itten and Theo Garve. 1957 to 1958 he completed a study visit to Paris. His first etchings were done in 1958. In the sixties, he studied and worked temporarily in France and London.
âFrom 1964 onwards he owned a studio in Hamburg-Farmsen. Buchholz used a wide range of artistic techniques, including etching and lithography, hand drawing, egg / oil painting and acrylic painting.
âThe object of the image was mainly the human figure fusing with the vegetative, with an abstract-dynamic formal language.
âWolff Buchholz is part of institutional collections such as the National Gallery of Art, and the Portland Art Museum.
