Body, n.d.
oil on canvas
39.4 x 39.4 in. (100 x 100 cm)
This square-format composition presents a stylised rendering of the human figure, treated with restrained tonal modulation and controlled painterly gesture. The body is neither strictly anatomical nor fully abstracted, but exists in a liminal space between presence and dissolution. Subtle shifts in light and form emphasise volume while maintaining an atmosphere of quiet introspection.
The artist’s approach reflects a synthesis of academic training and contemporary abstraction, in which the figure becomes a vessel for psychological and formal exploration. Brushwork is deliberately measured, allowing structure and atmosphere to coexist in balanced tension.
The work engages with broader developments in post-1980s Chinese figuration, a period in which artists increasingly turned toward the body as a site of existential and philosophical inquiry. Within this context, the figure becomes both subject and metaphor for interior experience.
The work is in excellent condition, preserved in its original frame, with no visible signs of restoration or surface instability. Provenance: documentation can be provided upon request.
