Description:
The "Tree of the Future Series" is deeply rooted in the artist’s reflection on the impact of modernization and environmental destruction. Inspired by his experience in 2005, Zhao Guangchen created a symbolic installation in the Chaobai River, which led to a series of paintings. His work focuses on a rootless dead tree wrapped in gauze, symbolizing hope for the river's recovery. The desolate scene of a dry, cracked riverbed and the sparse blossoms of plastic flowers and leaves evoke the fragility of nature, interspersed with feelings of melancholy and hope. The recurring theme of "rootless dead trees" and their contrasts with fleeting life forms (like birds and human figures) draws attention to the delicate relationship between humans and nature. His circular compositions, inspired by Song Dynasty court paintings, further reinforce the disconnect between past beauty and present desolation, and convey a powerful message of change and hope amid environmental loss.
