Description:
This exquisite Yaozhou engraved "Peony" bowl dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD). The interior of the bowl is richly carved with two peony stems that descend along the sides, sweeping outwards in opposite directions. These stems give way to a dense field of brilliant flowers, with leaves spreading around the blooms. The rhythmic movement of the petals and leaves is accentuated by carding lines on the textured surface, creating a dynamic and intricate design. The bowl features an ordinary ribbon edge below, typical of the Yaozhou ware.
Yaozhou ceramics are renowned for their refined, elegant designs and fine craftsmanship, and this bowl exemplifies the high level of artistry during the Song Dynasty.
