Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing flaws, including a larger firing crack around the base with brown staining, as well as glaze recesses, brown spots, and kiln grit.
Description:
This Longquan celadon censer dates from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), China. The censer is sturdily potted with a cylindrical form, deep sides rising from a gently tapered ring foot to a slightly raised and incurved rim. It is covered in a uniform sea-green glaze that continues over the rim, covering the underside, but leaves a small unglazed center with a partially glazed recessed base. The exposed body of the censer is washed with a brown tone.

From the private collection of Professor Filippo Salviati, Rome, Italy. A renowned professor of archaeology and art history at the Italian Institute of Oriental Studies at the Sapienza University of Rome, Prof. Salviati has extensively researched and published on Chinese archaic art.
